One of the largest East Coast Apple Shippers, Hudson River Fruit Distributors, has been honored to serve our customers for over 50 years!
Now a 4th generation family owned and operated company, we are vertically integrated to satisfy all of your needs. We are apple growers, packers, and shippers as well as represent over 50 other commercial apple growers in New York State and New England.
Hudson River Fruit Distributors was established on July 12, 1963, by Isadore "Izzy" Albinder and his son Harold Albinder.
Izzy first entered the apple business back in 1932, after emigrating from Russia. He saw an opportunity to broker apples, so he bought a pushcart and sold apples in the neighborhood streets of Brooklyn, New York. A time came that Izzy had trouble finding apples of high enough quality. He decided to venture up to the Hudson Valley and began fostering relationships with apple growers, some of whom we still work with today.
Harold entered the business full time in the late 1950's. Together, Izzy and Harold purchased a packing house of their own, which is still in operation 50 years later. In 1967, they bought their first orchard, in order to provide better control of the apples they were selling. By 1972, with the purchase of their eighth orchard, they owned and operated over 1000 acres of cultivated land.
In 1980, Danny Albinder (Izzy's grandson and Harold's son) joined the business full-time, literally learning the business from the ground up. Danny has worked in the orchards, the packing house, and in shipping and receiving. He now currently holds the title of Chief Operating Officer.
In the early 1990's, Lia Diamond (Harold’s daughter) moved to one of the family farms in Bennington VT. Lia currently owns and runs the Apple Barn (http://theapplebarn.com/), an iconic farm stand that is famous for its mini- cider donuts! She has always loved agriculture, and overseas the farm operations at Southern Vermont Orchards, a picturesque 225 acre farm that sits 1000 ft above sea-level.
In 2013, Alisha Albinder (Izzy's great granddaughter, Harold's granddaughter, and Danny's Daughter) joined the company working in Operations. Before joining the family business, she graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship and worked as a produce buyer for Fresh Direct.
